Kaffe Fasset's Quilt Grandeur Book Review by Annette

I couldn’t resist buying this book considering it appealed to me on so many levels: it's full of colourful modern quilts, photographed in a beautiful part of England, had clear instructions for all quilts and built in templates that can’t get lost.

I love modern quilts with lots of colour and like all of Kaffe’s amazing work. This book showcases a wide range of colourful fabrics, in a variety of designs. My favourites range from the incredible “Cartwheel” by Liza Prior Lucy, that feature foundation pieced fans appliquéd to background squares and embellished with rick-rack, to the two kids quilts “Paper Dolls” by Brandon Mably and “Traffic Jam” by Pauline Smith.

I have just completed Traffic Jam and had so much fun designing the trucks and fussy cutting the wheels that I was a little sad when I had completed all the required blocks. My next project is going to be the “Paper Dolls” and I can’t wait to begin my blocks for this quilt.

The instructions and materials list for each project are clear and easy to follow. The templates at the back of the book are clearly marked for each project and secure within the book so they can’t get lost.

Even if you don’t want to make any of the 20 amazing quilts featured in this book it will make a beautiful coffee table book with photography showing the beautiful Cornish estate of Port Eliot adorned with quilts featured throughout the grand home and grounds. This is a lovely book full of great eye candy to get your imagination flowing and fingers itching to begin your next project.

Be sure to check out Two Flying Geese for all your fabric needs.
